Oke Ero Achieves Open Defecation-Free Status

Following the open defeacation rules set by Government and Development Partners towards the attainment of Local Government wide open defecation-free status aimed at enhancing public health and sanitation, Kwara State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), in collaboration with UNICEF and the State Task Group on Sanitation, has officially declared Oke Ero Local Government Area Open Defecation Free (ODF).

 Certificates were thereafter presented to the remaining 9 communities that fulfilled all necessary criteria, thereby marking a landmark achievement in the state’s sanitation journey.


Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the General Manager, RUWASSA, Mr. Olorunfemi Oladipo informed the gathering that Oke Ero has now joined the 104 Local Government Areas across Nigeria that have achieved ODF status, out of the existing 774 Local Governments nationwide. 


The GM commended them for the progress and expressed hope that other Local Government Areas in the state would follow suit, in furthering Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s vision of a clean and healthy state


Mr. Oladipo gave kudos to the leadership of Oke Ero Local Government, Hon. James Fadipe for aligning with the goal of eliminating open defecation, therefore encouraging them to intensify efforts at sustaining the initiatives.

The National Task Group on Sanitation(NTGS) is expected to visit the the Local Government Areas for validation.


 At the same time, local government areas like Ekiti, Ilorin South, and West would have been ready for their validation



Also, speaking at the event, the Chairman of Oke Ero Local Government, Mr. James Fadipe lauded RUWASSA’s support for them to achieve the status, with a pledge to uphold hygienic practices and maintain their ODF status in all the communities.


Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of Oke Ero Traditional Council, Elekan of Ekan Land, Oba Olaniyan David Adekunle, attributed the achievement to the collective resolve of the people, to achieve the open defecation free status.

 Oba Adekunle urged residents to continue prioritizing their health through the practice of  personal hygiene and sanitation to ensure the well-being of the community.


Chairman of the State Task group on Sanitation, Alhaji Jimoh Elewuetu in his comments, congratulated the communities and  celebrated the milestone achieved by Oke-Ero through RUWASSA and emphasized the importance of sustainability, to prevent regression into poor sanitation practices.


Dignitaries at the event are Edemon of Kajola, Oba Johnson Jide Kehinde, Onimoji of Imoji, Oba Engr. Dominic Olugbenga Kolawole and Alajure of Ajure; Oba Olusegun Atolagbe.

Others are Elerin of Erinmope, Oba Julius Oloruntowoju Abiodun, Onidofin of Idofin Igbanna, Oba Samuel Fabiyi and other relevant stakeholders.

Kwara Govt Okays Conditional Re-opening of Forest for Sawmilers

The Kwara State Government has officially announced the re-opening of forests in the State for sawmilling and forestry related activities with conditions aimed at preserving the forests as crucial natural resources for generations to come.  The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, as part of the government's position while interacting with officials and key-stakeholders of saw millers, chainsaw operators and plank sellers in the State today.
