KWSG Takes Delivery of 1,982 Life-saving Commodities from UNICEF
The Kwara State Government today takes delivery of 1,982 cartoons of Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in Ilorin, even as it promised to remain focused and committed to scaling up interventions that will eradicate child malnutrition and improve the overall well-being of children across the state.
Taking the delivery of the consignment on behalf of the State Government, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam reaffirmed government's commitments and dedication to strengthening nutrition interventions and reducing malnutrition-related morbidity and mortality in the state.
The supply, according to the Commissioner, "was procured through Ariel Foods Nigeria and made possible through the UNICEF Child Nutrition Fund. A match-funding mechanism designed to provide life-saving nutrition commodities for vulnerable children."
She disclosed that the gesture was made possible by the timely payment of the contribution of $100,000 by the state government, to UNICEF Child Nutrition Fund.
She added that; "the investment had directly facilitated the procurement and delivery of vital consignment that would, ensure effective management of acute malnutrition among children in the state. Kudos to our people's Governor, Mallam AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq CON for the timely intervention.
The milestone further underscores the present administration’s resolve to provide quality healthcare services, particularly to most vulnerable population." She added.
The Commissioner then, appreciated UNICEF for its continued partnership and support in improving child health and nutrition outcomes in the State, also acknowledged Ariel Foods Nigeria, for its role at ensuring the timely delivery of the RUTF supplies, with a promise that the State Ministry of Health would work closely with relevant stakeholders, to ensure that the supplies reach beneficiaries across the state.
