KWSG REITERATES COMMITMENT TO WELFARE OF PLWD

The Kwara State Government has reiterated its continued commitment to uplifting and empowering Persons Living with Disabilities  (PLWD) in order to impact positively on their lives and ensure their well-being.

The Commissioner for Social Development,  Hon. Mariam Nnafatima Imam, PhD, stated this recently while receiving the Executives of the Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD), who paid a courtesy visit to her office.

Hon. Mariam noted that the State Government has on yearly basis commemorate the PLWD, where the physically challenged citizens are empowered with mobility aides, stressing that to make the support towards their plights more encompassing and robust, the Ministry of Social Development is planning to digitalize the operations of the PLWD, to enable private and foreign donors support in order to complement the State Government’s efforts in bringing succour to the PLWD members.

She stressed that the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has continuously integrated PLWD into his administration, which underscores his absolute confidence in them thereby contributing meaningfully to the growth of the state.

The  Commissioner revealed that plans are ongoing to renovate and reequip the Amoyo Rehabilitation Centre that was gulped with inferno, to give the whole facilities a facelift so as to improve the living condition of those in the Rehabilitation Home.

Hon. Mariam reassured that the present administration will continue to execute policies and programmes that will ameliorate the challenges of PWLD in the state, adding that the State Government is in the process of commencing more empowerment programmes for PWLD.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Needs, Hon. Soliu Habeeb Baba Olaoye, appreciated the Commissioner for her proactiveness and wisdom in changing the narrative of the Ministry to a more results driven, goal-oriented and impactful one in a shortest possible time. 

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Peter Kayode Ayanwale, commended the Commissioner on her resolve to impact possitively on the lives of PLWD, expressing confidence that her leadership will bring about lots of unprecedented achievements to the Ministry and the State at large.

Furthermore, the Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply,  Mrs Florence Balogun, expressed her confidence that Hon. Mariam will pilot the affairs of the Ministry to greater heights, highlighting her unprecedented commitment towards the plights of the PLWD.

Speaking on behalf of other members, Mallam Kehinde Abdulsalam, thanked Governor AbdulRazaq for his unwavering support to the PLWD through numerous empowerment programmes for the members.

He, however, appealed to the State Government to look into some of their challenges, especially, at the school of Special Needs where there is currently no provision for the blind pupils to move ahead to the secondary school level because of lack of facilities, hence, preventing them from starting their secondary education.

Mallam Abdulsalam sought for prompt actions to tackle the challenges facing PLWD, noting that he has confidence in the exemplary leadership qualities of Governor AbdulRazaq.
