KWSG LAUNCHES LITERACY BY RADIO PROGRAMME TO COMBAT ILLITERACY

In a bid to eradicate illiteracy in the State, the Kwara State Government has launched a "literacy by radio" programme aimed at promoting literacy and essential skills among residents of the State.

The programme, which will commence on Monday, 21st April, 2025 is designed to reach a wide audience, covering both the rural and urban areas to bridge the literacy gap in the State.

The Executive Director, Agency for Mass Education, Mallam Saka Yusuf who stated this in his office today, added that the programme would be aired on Radio Kwara Midland FM 99.1 on Mondays and Thursdays of each week by 5:20 pm and will last for six weeks, covering reading, numeracy and civic education. 

According to him, "we are committed to empowering the youths and adults with the necessary skills to be able to contribute meaningfully to societal growth and development". The programme will provide opportunities for youths and adults to be able to read, write and calculate basic arithmetics.

He affirmed that the programme is part of the efforts of the government to improve the literacy rate in the State and enjoined youths and adults to tune in to participate actively in the programme. 

The Agency has also embarked on advocacy visits to traditional, religious and political leaders, including learners, to build support and ensure active involvement. 

During the visit to the Emir of Lafiagi, Alh. Muhammed Kudu Kawu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Alh. Alfa Lawal commended the State Government's commitment to education and described the initiative as a huge development to the grassroots.

In Offa LGA, the member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, representing Ojomu/Balogun Offa, State constituency, Hon. Seun Oguniyi Adato praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his visionary investment in education.

Similarly, the Executive Chairman, Isin Local Government Area, Hon. Jolayemi Olarewaju, commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State for his contribution and support towards literacy and vocational skills in the State. He pledged his support for the literacy programme in the local Government Area. 

The learning materials presented to the learners included radio sets, literacy by radio primers and instructional materials to enhance close participation.The learners expressed  excitement over the opportunity given them to learn through the radio.

Kwara TESCOM Opens Application Portal for Teaching Jobs

Kwara Govt Okays Conditional Re-opening of Forest for Sawmilers

The Kwara State Government has officially announced the re-opening of forests in the State for sawmilling and forestry related activities with conditions aimed at preserving the forests as crucial natural resources for generations to come.  The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, as part of the government's position while interacting with officials and key-stakeholders of saw millers, chainsaw operators and plank sellers in the State today.
