Kwara Transportation Ministry Synergizes with KWIRS on Improved IGR

As part of its initiatives towards improved revenue generation for the State, the Kwara State Ministry of Transportation has pledged readiness to synergize with relevant agencies and stakeholders to fulfill its mandate of ensuring reasonable improvement in its revenue generation.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi made the pledge, yesterday, during a meeting with the management of KWIRS, who paid him a courtesy visit, in his office.

Hon. Lafia acknowledged the pivotal roles of the Agency in its IGR drive, which has enabled the State Government to implement most of its infrastructural projects, social intervention support and aids, payment of salaries, building of ultramodern hubs and factories, road rehabilitation and construction, among several monumental projects, positively impacting the State.

The Transport Commissioner, who equally disclosed that the Ministry is poised to ensuring adherence to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's vision of a good transportation system for Kwara, has already kicked the ball rolling and working out collaborations with stakeholders in the transport industry across the nation. He disclosed a proposal for "government parks" to overcome traffic congestion in the metropolis.

He, however, assured the Agency of continued understanding and collaboration in the areas of enforcement and revenue collection for improved performance and actualization of its vision to the citizens.

In her address, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara Internal Revenue Services, Shade Omoniyi, commended the State Government for creating a stand alone Transport Ministry and congratulated the Commissioner in charge, saying that the Ministry has enormous responsibilities, aside its management and coordination of road users and compliance to traffic law, should strengthen effort to block leakages of revenue collection, while expanding its operations to all the sixteen Local Government Areas of the State.

Shade Omoniyi, emphasizing on the need for a smooth working relationship between the two establishments 

to ensure adequate collection and remittance of its dues and fees on road users permits, licence fees, daily tickets and other fees accruable to the State. She encouraged the Ministry to work in unison with the Transport Taxation Committee recently inaugurated by the Governor, to achieve better results.

Also at the meeting were, the Director Personnel, Finance and Supply of the Ministry, Hajia Medinat Ajao; Director, Transport, Planning and Coordination, Engr. Joshua Durotoye; Director, Mechanical Services, Engr. Olayinka Busari; Director, Rail Road and Water Ways, Engr. Solomon Oyinloye; other management staff of the Ministry and the staff of the KWIRS.
