Kwara Government Seeks Stronger Professional Synergy in Project Executions

The Kwara State Government has reiterated the importance of professional collaboration in the execution of public projects, stressing that only with the active involvement of qualified experts can projects quality and accountability be assured.

The General Manager of the Kwara State Public Procurement Agency, (PPA), QS Raheem Abdulbaki, made this known during a stakeholders' meeting with professional ministries held in Ilorin on Wednesday.

Abdulbaki emphasized that professionals must rise to their responsibilities and act as watchdogs over government contracts, ensuring each project reflects the highest standards of professionalism.
"Professionals need to wake up to their duties by ensuring that they monitor all government contracts towards ensuring that they are professionally done," he said. "We cannot continue to condone the ineptitude which the State has suffered due to lapses in the project execution chain. Every project must have experienced professionals supervising the components that involve them, so that excellence becomes the order of the day."

He further charged all professional ministries to ensure no project with professional components proceeds without adequate input from the relevant experts.

In his response, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Olaitan Afolabi, praised the PPA for the initiative, recalling the Agency's previous interventions that ensured the inclusion of professionals in the ministries to monitor State projects. He called for a holistic overhaul of project monitoring mechanisms to achieve better, results-driven outcomes.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Mallam Salau Kabiru Abdullahi, assured the Agency of the Ministry’s full commitment to fostering inter-agency collaborations, which he said is urgently needed at this time.

His counterpart from the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs. Rebecca Bake, described the call for synergy as "long overdue." She urged all relevant stakeholders to work closely with the PPA to actualize the vision for sustainable development across the State.

The Ministry of Water Resources, represented by the Permanent Secretary Mrs. Omolola Christiana Asonibare, echoed similar sentiments. She noted that the Ministry boasts of a wide array of professionals and assured the PPA of their readiness to support the State's developmental goals.

Other speakers at the meeting lauded Abdulbaki's consistent professionalism, which they said has been a hallmark of his leadership since his tenure as Director Building Services of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, and now as the Head of the Procurement Agency.

The meeting was attended by management staff of the Ministries of Water Resources, Housing and Urban Development, Education and Human Capital Development, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and the host Procurement Agency.

Kwara Govt Okays Conditional Re-opening of Forest for Sawmilers

The Kwara State Government has officially announced the re-opening of forests in the State for sawmilling and forestry related activities with conditions aimed at preserving the forests as crucial natural resources for generations to come.  The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, as part of the government's position while interacting with officials and key-stakeholders of saw millers, chainsaw operators and plank sellers in the State today.
