COMMISSIONER SEEKS LAWMAKERS’ SUPPORT TO IMPROVE KWARA EDUCATION SECTOR

The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe has sought full support of Kwara State House of Assembly to complement the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen and improve the education sector.

Dr. Olohungbebe made the appeal on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Chairman, House Committee on Education, led by Hon. Mohammed Salihu Boriya, who represents Okuta/Yashikira constituency in Baruten Local Government Area.

Expressing appreciation for the opportunity, the Commissioner said, “it gives me great pleasure to be here today. We must maximise every opportunity and work towards the sustainability of our efforts to revamp the education sector.”

He commended the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON) and the House of Assembly members for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Ministry, pledging to justify the confidence placed in him.

Outlining his agenda, Dr. Olohungbebe informed the Committee about the introduction of support service for students, an initiative aimed at creating direct access for students in public schools to share their learning experience with the Commissioner without fear of intimidation, noting that this is to ensure quality and accessible education in a safe environment for all pupils and students across the State.

The Commissioner announced that exceptional teachers across 16 Local Government Areas would be recognised to encourage commitment and dedication in the teaching profession.

Responding, the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Mohammed Salihu Boriya, congratulated the Commissioner on his appointment, describing him as “a round peg in a round hole.” 

He praised the Governor for making a capable choice and assured the Commissioner of the Committee’s full support and cooperation.

“There must be a cordial and harmonious relationship between the House of Assembly and the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Department to work effectively for the progress of our children’s education”, Hon. Boriya stated.

The meeting was attended by several key stakeholders, including Hon. Oguniyi Seun David (Ojomu/Balogun, Offa), Hon. Abduraheem Medinat (Lanwa/Ejidongari, Moro), Hon. Babatunde Ayi Olatundun (Ilorin North/West), Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake, Mallam Rauf Karatu, and the Committee clerk.

Kwara TESCOM Opens Application Portal for Teaching Jobs

Kwara Govt Okays Conditional Re-opening of Forest for Sawmilers

The Kwara State Government has officially announced the re-opening of forests in the State for sawmilling and forestry related activities with conditions aimed at preserving the forests as crucial natural resources for generations to come.  The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, as part of the government's position while interacting with officials and key-stakeholders of saw millers, chainsaw operators and plank sellers in the State today. It would be recalled that the forests were declared closed in January 2025 to enhance natural regeneration of the forests and allow the Ministry gainful opportunity to engage relevant stakeholders towards adopting best practices while pursuing economic activities within the forests' terrain.
