OLOHUNGBEBE CALLS FOR TEACHERS’ SUPPORT
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe has called on teachers across the state to give maximum support to the present administration under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON), to enable total revamping of the education sector.
Dr. Olohungbebe made this call on Thursday while receiving the Executives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) and Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), in his office.
The Commissioner said that by putting an end to ‘geri gedi’ salary, Governor AbdulRazaq-led administration has shown its dedication to the welfare of teachers and workers at large, adding that this has positively changed the dedication of workers to their legitimate duties.
He urged them to be more productive and shun all acts that can dent their future, saying "I will not use my office to intimidate nor witch-hunt any teacher, let's have good working relationships.”
Dr. Olohungbebe assured the teachers that the state government will take necessary measures concerning teachers’ welfare, reiterating that Governor AbdulRazaq will continue to ensure that he puts smiles on the faces of all residents in the state.
Earlier in his congratulatory message, the State Chairman of NUT, Comrade Yusuf Wahab, expressed gratitude to God and the Governor for putting a round peg in a round hole by appointing a capable hand to lead the education sector in the state.
He applauded the present administration in the state for prompt payment of salaries and promotions of the teachers as and when due, while itemizing several pressing issues that need urgent attention such as Teachers Specific Allowances (TSA), implementation of financial backing of teachers' promotion, elongation of teachers service year from 60 years to 65 years, which will help the state government to retain able and experienced teachers.
The meeting was also attended by Kwara State ANCOPSS President, Comrade Baba Saliu; Kwara State AOPSHON Chairman, Comrade Ayodeji Babafemi; Principal Assistant Secretary General, Mr. Moni Mike Modesty Itua; and other Executives.
