KWSG PRIORITIZES SAFETY OF RESIDENTS, ROAD USERS- LAFIA

The Kwara State Government has  reaffirmed it's resolve in prioritizing the safety of lives of citizens, especially road users and commuters.

The State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi  gave the affirmation during the inspection exercise and courtesy visit paid to the Vehicle Inspection Office, Kwara State Command, in Ilorin, recently.

Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, in his remarks expressed delight to meet with the VIO State Command and praised the office for their crucial roles in coordinating, easing the movement of vehicles and placing checks on drivers behaviours, through enforcement and ensuring strict compliance to road traffic laws.

Hon. Lafia emphasized that the presence of the VIO officers cannot be overlooked as they help to guide the drivers against some unethical driving, while ensuring the cars plying on the roads are in good condition.

Speaking on the welfare of the staff of the office, the Transportation Commissioner, gave the assurance that the State government would work to see that the State VIO has its zonal offices in all the 16 Local Government Areas in the State to allow efficient performance and  widespread service delivery.

He, however, encouraged the State VIO to buckle up efforts in the discharge of their duties,  accommodating more IT students from relevant  tertiary institutions within and outside the state to enable them acquire knowledge and maximize potentials in both mechanical service and traffic laws.

The Commissioner, equally, gave assurance of Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq the willingness to always uplift the working standard of all sectors in the State through enabling and conducive environment; adding that more staff would be recruited for efficiency and smooth service delivery.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, Kwara State Command, Engr. Yakubu Isiaq, expressed delight at the Commissioner's visit, stating that with the creation of the transportation Ministry, coupled with the administrative experience of its Commissioner, the long time yearnings of the Agency would become a thing of the past.

The visit which started with the welcome ceremonial parade and salute to the Commissioner, was followed by a brief on-the-spot inspection tour to some of the units of the agency which, included the central workshop unit, the automated vehicle inspection services unit, administrative units, amongst others.

Speaking at the central workshop unit, the Director of Transportation, Planning and Coordination of the Ministry, Engr. Joshua Durotoye, explained that the unit accommodates students who go there  for Industrial Training to learn some practical skills on automobile engines and servicing.

Also speaking at the automated vehicle inspection service unit, the State Coordinator of the Unit, Engr. Ibrahim Yinka Akeem said the Unit through equipments on ground can detect faults in vehicle-emission test, conformity test of vehicle particulars, breaking system test, visual inspection, mechanical checks, lightening and few other tests.

On the entourage of the Commissioner were the Director, Mechanical Services, Engr. Olayinka Busari, Senior Administrative Officer, Mr. Usman Soliu Tunde, and other management staff of the Ministry.
