KWSG Commissions Live Bird Market
The Kwara State Government today commissioned Live Bird Market in Ita-Nma, Ilorin West Local Government Area, with a promise to strengthen livestock productions as well as boost food security in the state.
The state Commissioner for Livestock Development, Hon Oloruntoyosi Thomas-Adebayo who dropped this hint during the official commissioning of the Market, informed the gathering of the present administration's readiness to create sustainable economic opportunities for the people of the state.
According to her, "This facility is a manifestation of strategic synergy and cooperation among Federal, State and Ilorin West Local Government respectively."
The Commissioner further assured that the state government would ensure continuous synergy and follow-up with the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, other agencies and partners, to attract more interventions to complement state government's efforts towards sustainable livestock development.
While appreciating the Fowl Sellers Association for their participation in the growth and development of the state, she urged them to make judicious use of the market and ensure hygienic and proper maintenance of the building.
Mrs Thomas-Adebayo also reminded them of the fact that, the Market is a surveillance point, adding that, government's intention was to prevent the transmission of zoonotic diseases from poultry and poultry products to human beings.
She thereafter, assured them of government's intention to continue to create conducive environment for the business to thrive.
She commended the stakeholders for their contributions and urged them to remain dedicated to livestock development initiatives in the state.
The Commissioner assured stakeholders that government will continue to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and other relevant agencies to attract further investments.
Earlier, the Director of Veterinary Services, of the Ministry, Dr Olugbon Abdullateef Salman in his welcome address, reaffirmed government commitments to addressing challenges in the livestock sector, at both the state and national level, emphasizing on the need for federal support, to strengthen state-level initiatives and expand market opportunities for livestock farmers.
In his remarks, the representative of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, the Alangua of Ubandawaki, Alhaji Amuda Muhammed, lauded the government initiative, noting that it would provide a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
He commended both the Federal and State Governments for their dedication to livestock development and sustainable economic growth in Kwara State.
Also speaking at the event, the President of Fowl Sellers Association of Nigeria, Kwara State Chapter, Abdukqadir Hassan, expressed his profound appreciation to the state government, for the laudable project, charging members of the association to maintain high hygiene standards and make proper use of the market facility.
The newly commissioned Live Bird Market is expected to boost economic activities of the state, create job opportunities and further strengthen the livestock value chain in Kwara State.
