Kwara Transport Commissioner Badges CIOTAN Membership Honour

The Kwara State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Kora Sabi has been honoured with the Membership of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria, CIOTAN.

The Commissioner received the honour on behalf of the management and staff of the Ministry, while hosting the Registrar and Secretary of the Council, Alh. Rasheed Isiaka Aiyelabegan, on a courtesy visit to his office, yesterday.

Hon. Sabi expressed gratitude to the Institute for the membership honour accorded him, and their thoughtfulness to contact the Ministry for synergy, which he described as timely to accelerate the performance of the new Ministry.

Hon. Sabi assured the Institute of the State Government's commitment to ensuring  the optimal performance of the transportation sector and enjoined the Institute's Registrar to always get in touch with the Ministry for a holistic working relationship that would engender robust development and  prosperity for Kwara State. 

On her part, the Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply of the Ministry, Hajia Medinat Ajao, hailed the Institute for contacting the Ministry and for considering a membership alliance with the Commissioner.

Also, the Director of Transport, Planning and Coordination of the Ministry, Engr. Joshua Durotoye thanked the CIOTAN Registrar for his efforts and the roles played in the background to ensure that the Kwara State Transportation Ministry is well positioned for success.

Earlier, in his address, the Registrar and Secretary of CIOTAN Alh. Rasheed Isiaka Aiyelabegan, who congratulated the Commissioner on his appointment, applauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for considering a stand  alone Transportation Ministry for the State.

He stressed that the institute had proposed to the Kwara State Government in the past on the need to have a separate Transport Ministry like other states of the Federation for many reasons and benefits and therefore, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's  administration for bringing it on board.

"The institute has been in existence for decades having 27 states on its membership but Kwara is yet to be a member. As the son of this State, I am delighted to pay a courtesy visit to the Ministry and to formerly enroll the Hon. Commissioner and other professionals of the Ministry as members of our Institute", he said.

"The Institute is registered by law and well structured that in the future its membership certification could be a yardstick for cadre progression in the civil service for officers in the Transportation Ministries; we have been in interaction with many states like Lagos, Ogun, Kaduna and others with several benefits for our members - in the areas of advocacy, training and human capital development, which we want Kwara to also benefit from" he added.

According to the CIOTAN Registrar, the enrollment of Kwara State Ministry of Transportation will position Kwara to harness numerous benefits and interventions from the Federal Government on transportation matters.

He further disclosed that the Institute organizes workshops and seminars across the six geopolitical zones of the country, adding that Kwara State possesses the right potentials to be picked as the host for the North-Central zone.

Other highlights of the meeting were the presentation of membership enrollment forms and souvenirs to the Commissioner.

Also, at the meeting, were the Director Mechanical Services, Engr. Olayinka Busari; Director Rail, Road and Water Ways, Engr. Solomon Oyinloye and other management staff of the Ministry.
