Kwara Govt Partners NCAM on Youths Empowerment

In a significant move to tackle youths unemployment and boost skills acquisition, the Kwara State Government has announced a partnership with the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM) to equip young people with practical skills in agricultural mechanization, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The State Commissioner for Youths Development, Amb. Ndanusa Usman Shehu, made this submission during the visit to NCAM to seek mutual relation with the Agency to help create great opportunity to empower young people in the agricultural sector.

The Commissioner stressed that the initiative will provide training opportunities in modern farming techniques, equipment handling, and agribusiness strategies.

“This collaboration with NCAM is a step towards ensuring that our youths have access to practical training that will make them self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the State’s economy. By leveraging NCAM’s expertise, we seek to enhance productivity in the agricultural sector while creating sustainable employment opportunities for Kwara youths," the Commissioner submitted.

The Executive Director of NCAM, Engr. Dr. Kamal, represented by Engineer Dr. Isaac Ozumba, highlighted the centre’s readiness to support the initiative.

He noted that a synergy with the Ministry of Youths development is of great importance,  stressing that the core values of the Agency such as

entrepreneurship and agribusiness support, access to agricultural machinery, youths training and capacity building will be of benefits to youths.

“Agricultural mechanization is key to food security and economic growth. Through this programme, we will train youths in handling modern farm equipment and adopting innovative farming techniques that will enhance productivity,” he stated.

He emphasized that the Agency will also help in research and innovation to engage young innovators in research projects on improving mechanization for small holder farmers, and also encourage youths participation in the development of affordable, locally-made farming tools.

Those in the entourage of the Commissioner were; the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply of the Ministry, Dr. Mrs Funmilola Adenike Ajide, Director, Youths, Alhaji Abdulsalam Akeem and Assistant Director Administration, Mr Sikiru Aminu, Coordinator, Kwara North Youths Progressive Movement, Abdulkadir Kawu, Deputy Director of Programmes, Youth-up Global, West Africa region, Mr Abdulkareem Abdulkareem and members of the Uniform Voluntary Youths Organizations (VYO).
