Stakeholders Laud Governor AbdulRazaq's Investment in Livestock
The Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has again been commended for his investment in the transformation of the livestock sector of the State.The commendation was given at a "step-down" training organized by "Agbeloba Omodara Cooperative farming group" in collaboration with the Kwara State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) held at the Idi-Igba Community of the Ilorin West Local Government Area of the State.
Speaking at the training, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas said the achievements recorded by the L-PRES project was due to the visionary leadership style of the Governor in providing an enabling environment for agricultural businesses in the State.
Mrs.Thomas explained that the programme was part of the State government's strategic plan to expand the State's economy by creating job opportunities, eradicating poverty and hunger as well as making citizens economically self-reliant.
She further explained that the focus of the present administration was not just to strengthen the capacity of farmers to achieve food and nutrition security but to also improve their skills and make them job creators.
The State House of Assembly Leader, Barrister (Hon.) Oba Magaji said the implementation of the L-PRES projects have repositioned the livestock sector as one of the key sectors that drive the economy of the State and charged the participants to take advantage of the training to improve their knowledge in the livestock business.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Ilorin West Local Government, Hon. AbdulRahman Babatunde Ladan said the objectives of the L-PRES project were in alignment with his administration's planned programme on agriculture at the local government level. He promised that the Council would continue to collaborate with the coordinators of the project with a view to promoting the growth of small ruminants production and improving the economy of the people in his local government.
The Council Chair further commended Governor Abdulrazaq for his vision in growing the economy of the State through the agricultural development in the Local governments and the State at large. He commended L-PRES for its initiative of providing farmers with the tools and technical support needed to thrive in the competitive agricultural market.
Earlier, the State Project Coordinator, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye had disclosed that the training was organized to enhance farmers' skills in small ruminants farming and the production of quality feed for livestock use. He added that the programme would further strengthen the agricultural sector and improve the resilience of grassroot farmers to achieve food and nutrition security in the State.
On his part, the Chairman of the "Agbeloba Omodara Cooperative", Mallam Aliyu Babatunde thanked the State government for the life changing programme and appreciated the invited stakeholders for their generous contributions to empowering farmers.
The participants were trained with practical demonstrations on small ruminants care, breeding techniques, feed formulation and production, using crop residues.
The key highlights of the programme were the empowerment of the trainees with small ruminant animals by the dignitaries at the event and presentation of awards to selected stakeholders for their efforts in promoting the livestock sector of the State.
