SAPZ: KWSG Charges Farmers on Climate-Smart Agricultural Technologies
The Kwara State Government has again charged farmers in the state to embrace climate-smart agricultural technologies, in order to obtain good yields from their farming activities.
The Project Coordinator, Kwara Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ ) Project, Engr. Dr. Busari Toyin Isiaka, gave this charge today, during a workshop organised for Women's Agricultural Cooperatives and Women's Small Medium Enterprises on climate-smart agricultural technologies, which took place at Igbaja, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Busari attributed most of the losses suffered by farmers these days to noncompliance with agricultural technologies, that are climate-smart, therefore disclosed that, government is advocating campaign for compliance among Kwara farmers, to avert such losses in future.
According to him, the workshop, which is paramount to the implementation of the SAPZ programme, is timely because, the planting season for this year will soon commence and farmers are to take necessary tips, to enhance agricultural productivity.
Dr. Busari then cautioned participants against bush burning, overgrazing, deforestation and other practices that can lead to reduction in crop production and engender losses.
Speaking at the occasion, the Executive Chairman, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Mr. Femi Yusuf, hailed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON for his grassroot approach to issues germane to development and people's welfare, noting that this has made him stand out in governance.
Mr. Yusuf further commended this administration for the passion to promote gender participation in the project, assuring government that Ifelodun local government area is ready to key into the project, to harness its benefits.
The Resource Person, Mr. Gbadebo Elebiyo, urged farmers to aclimatise with the dynamic unfolding of weather, stressing the need to adopt drought resistant seeds and an improved livestock with local variety.
Dignitaries at the event included a member representing Omupo Constituency, in Kwara State House of Assembly, Honourable Abdulganiyu Folabi Salahu, representatives of Nigerian Association of Women in Agriculture (NAWIA) and Mekunu Peoples Forum among others.
