KWSG REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO QUALITY HEALTH CARE SERVICE DELIVERY

…Over 500 health facilities and more than 10,000 settlements across the state benefit from interventions.

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the good people of Kwara will continue to have access to quality and affordable health care services in all government owned health facilities irrespective of their geographical locations, disclosing that numerous interventions have reached over 500 health facilities and more than 10,000 settlements across Kwara State.

The Executive Secretary, Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Nusirat Elelu, stated this yesterday at the 4th quarter of the Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing held at the  conference room of the Ministry of Finance, Ilorin.

Dr. Elelu who was represented by the Deputy Director of Primary Health Care systems, Dr. Ayodeji Adeniran, restated that the State Government, through the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, will continue to provide immunization and other primary health care interventions in order to reduce disease burden and enhance the quality of life of all residents of the state.

The Executive Secretary added that the Agency has delivered diverse range of services encompassing immunization, health education, nutritional promotion, safe water promotion, sanitization and maternal and child health through both fixed and outreach strategies.

She emphasized that the Agency will continue to prioritize the continuation of health sensitization campaigns, strengthen collaborations with stakeholders and institutions to enhance resources at health facilities and maintain consistent communication with community leaders to promote the goals of an inclusive health care system.

 Dr. Elelu stressed that the Agency has implemented several activities to protect children and mothers of child bearing age against diseases in year 2024 and more efforts are geared towards making such programmes successful in the future.

The Executive Secretary further stressed that the Agency also conducted Zero-dose mapping to track immunized and partially immunized children as well as conducted local immunization days to ramp up coverages of antigens.

Other campaigns that the Agency has implemented include: two rounds of Polio immunization exercise, the Big Catch-Up, conducted two rounds of optimized Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW) targeted at pregnant women and children below five years, distributed folic acid supplementation for pregnant women across Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs), performed food demonstration in PHCs, held quarterly meetings and engagement meetings with health workers at Local Government Areas and health coordinators to strategize on improving health service delivery, among others. 

Dr. Elelu appreciated the dedication, commitment,  and unwavering support of the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON for his huge investments at the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency at ensuring that all residents in all nooks and crannies of the state have access to quality and affordable health care services as evident in the fact that the Agency, with the dedication and support of the Governor, has been recognized as the best state in basic health care delivery in the entire North-Central region, securing the top position for the second consecutive time. 

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, noted that the Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing is a vital platform for ensuring transparency, accountability and open communication between the government and the public.

Hon. Bolanle Olukoju further explained that the briefing would create an avenue to sensitize the public on the activities and achievements of the government in the last quarter of year 2024.
