INDISCRIMINATE DUMPING OF WASTE, PUNISHABLE OFFENCE IN KWARA - BUGE

The Kwara State Government has again warned residents in the State against indiscriminate dumping of waste in drainages when facilities have been provided by the government for effective evacuation of waste to protect the health of the citizens and prevent the outbreak of preventable diseases.

The Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge reiterated this while receiving the report of activities carried out by the Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) in the State, where environmental violators were apprehended at Obbo road, Irewolede and Adualere areas, all in the metropolis.

The Commissioner noted that, Kwara State has been rated high among its peers for its untiring effort at eradicating indiscriminate dumping of refuse and sustaining a "Cleaner Kwara," where  a hygienic environment for residents is prioritized to create an enabling environment for social and economic activities.

She disclosed that, some environmental violators who were apprehended have been charged, with fines levied against them in accordance with the extant environmental laws.

Speaking earlier,  the team leader of the EHOs who were on duty, reported cases of open defecation in three buildings at the Adualere area, of Ilorin East, where after interrogations and investigations, the buildings were sealed.

Also, the EHOs reported another case of refuse dumping inside the drainage at Obbo road, where the residents were advised to clean the drainage to allow the free flow of water. Similarly, at the Irewolede area of Ilorin, a poultry farm was found guilty of violating an environmental law, the owner was asked to pay a fine of 50,000 Naira and purchase a waste bin, which he did immediately after the enforcement.

Hajia Buge, therefore, warned residents to desist from violating environmental laws or be ready to face the wrath of the law, she  appreciated the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his unwavering support to the Ministry in sustaining the initiative of a clean and safe Kwara.

The Commissioner commended the EHOs for their commitment and dedication, appealing to residents to join hands with the initiative of the present administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in its efforts at sustaining a safe, clean and hygienic Kwara State.

Desist from Lifting Students to Coaching Centers- KWSG

Kwara State Government has sounded serious warnings to proprietors of coaching centers across the state, to henceforth desist from lifting students from various schools, under the pretext of preparing them for Seniors Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)or be ready to face the full wrath of law.
