The Kwara State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Nafisat Buge has implored the management and staff of the State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) to re-double their efforts at ensuring proper waste management and compliance with environmental protection rules and regulations.

The Commissioner who stated this during a working visit to the staff and management of the Agency, appreciated the efforts of management and staff of KWEPA in protecting the environment to ensure a healthy environment for  residents of the State, especially in the year 2024.

She urged them to sustain the tempo, adding that sustainability was even more tasking than the good feat they had achieved in the year under review.

"What we started in 2024 was seen everywhere. However, sustainability is the key to what we have achieved. You have done well but there is a need to improve and even do  better in order to achieve our various mandates. Ethical practices must be our watchwords. We must discharge our responsibilities without waiting for anyone to push us to do them," she said.

Hon. Buge stressed the need for both the staff and management of the Ministry, including KWEPA to sustain the team work and the spirit of collective responsibility.

"This is a team work. The Ministry of Environment and KWEPA are the only two bodies saddled with the responsibility of ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all Kwarans," she added.

The Commissioner assured KWEPA of the State government's continued support, which had enabled KWEPA to carry out its duties.

In her remarks, the Acting General Manager of the Agency, Hajia Idayat Folohunsho, appreciated the State government for its constant support to the Agency.

She explained that the Agency, which had been doing its best in ensuring environmental protection, was even ready to do more with further support from the State government.
