Cancer: KWSG Screens 1,151 Women

....... restates commitment towards adequate healthcare service delivery 

The Kwara State Government has disclosed that no fewer than 1,151 women as well as other 807 individuals had been screened for breast and cervical cancers respectively, in the last quarter of the 2024.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam who made the disclosure at a quarterly Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing in Ilorin today, explained that "all suspicious breast lesions had Fine Needle Aspirate for Cytology (FNAC) done.

She added that all other individuals with diagnosed cases were directed to the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH), Ilorin, for proper medical attention from experts.

According to her, "between October 21st and December 12th, 2024, a total number of 1,151 women and 807 other individuals were screened for breast and cervical cancers respectively".

The Commissioner further revealed that the Ministry under project 10m screened 102,452 Kwarans for hypertension, while  free drugs were administered to individuals with the diseases.

She therefore, reiterated government's commitment at ensuring the delivery of adequate and qualitative healthcare services across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

The Commissioner also pledged that the present administration under the watch of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq would do everything possible to ensure that government facilitates across the state, serve their purposes in various communities.

She further emphasized that the government is committed to provisions of qualitative and affordable healthcare services, to every Kwaran and equally create an enabling environment for the entire health workers.

El-Imam who disclosed that government had embarked on the comprehensive renovation of both primary and secondary healthcare facilities across the state, disclosed they would soon be equipped with the state-of-the-art medical equipment, to ensure that those facilities adequately serve members of the public.

Highlighting the Ministry's achievements within the quarter under review, El-Imam explained that the Ministry implemented Project 10m across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state, adding that, the project ensures free screening of hypertension and diabetes patients, distribution of drugs and proper sensitization of Kwarans on two major non-communicable diseases, hypertension and diabetes.

She further revealed that health workers across primary, secondary and tertiary health facilities were trained on diagnosis on the management of hypertension and diabetes.

Earlier, the Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing and state Commissioner for Communications, Hon Bola Olukoju explained that the purpose of the briefing is to inform the public about government activities at 4th quarter of the year, where the headship of all MDAs are given the opportunity to give stewardship of the various government establishment.
