KWSG FLAGS-OFF DRUG TEST FOR NEWLY ADMITTED STUDENTS

The Kwara State Government has today commenced drug tests for all freshers at the Kwara State University (KWASU) as part of efforts to curb drug abuse among students of tertiary institutions in the State.


The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mrs Mary Arinde made this known today at the flag-off ceremony of the drug test programme, organized by the Kwara State Government in collaboration with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at KWASU in Malete.


The Commissioner said the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved the drug test for all the newly admitted students to curb the menace of drug abuse among students in Kwara State to ensure academic stability in all the State owned institutions.


She reiterated the  importance of the exercise to safeguard the future of the youths, and ensure early detection which would help in the immediate rehabilitation process.


According to her, "this initiative demonstrates the government's dedication to curbing drug abuse within the educational system."

Dr. Arinde emphasized that the unwavering support of the Executive Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been instrumental to driving the initiative, reinforcing the administration's commitment to building a safe and drug free society for youths.


In his welcome remarks, the Vice Chancellor of KWASU, Professor Shaykh Luqman Jimoh appreciated the State government for recognizing the institution as the leading institution to kick start the drug test programme for all the new students.


He expressed hope that the programme would reduce the menace of drug abuse among students in Kwara State."Whoever is tested positive shall be rehabilitated immediately with the approval of the Executive Governor of Kwara State," he added.


Speaking on the importance of the programme, the Chairman and Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen Mohammed Buba (retired) said the campaign against drug abuse is essential to nation building aimed at safeguarding the lives of youths for a brighter future.


Gen. Buba, who was represented by ACGN Mohammed Bashir, commended the State Government for the life- rehabilitation programme put in place to protect the leaders of tomorrow in Kwara State. He enthused that history would not forget Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the laudable initiative.


Dignitaries at the occasion were the Special Assistant to the Governor on drug Prevention and Control, Hon. Mukail Aleiru,  Special Assistant on Students Affairs, Hon. Salami Wasiu, Management of KWASU,  State Commander, NDLEA CN. Fatima Abiola Popoola, amongst others.

KWASRRA COMMENCES LOCAL GOVERNMENT RESIDENTS REGISTRATION

The Kwara State Residents Registration Agency has commenced registration for the staff of Local Government Areas and farmers across the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State. The second phase of the registration exercise is focused on the registration of the members of Staff of the Local Government Areas (LGA), Local Government Education Authority ( LGEA), Teaching Service Commission ( TESCOM) and farmers across the State.
