KWSG FLAGS OFF DEWORMING EXERCISE IN SCHOOLS

The Government of Kwara State has flagged off the deworming excercise of 776,896 School Age Children, between 5 -14 years, to ensure healthy living of children, in Kwara State and environs. 


The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Amin did the flagged off the programme during the week at Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Ilorin.


While performing the ceremony, the Commissioner, noted that the deworming exercise reflects state government’s commitment to protect children from preventable diseases. 


“This year’s Mass Administration of Medicines (MAM) is targeted at seven hundred and seventy six thousand eight hundred and ninety six (776,896) school aged children (SAC), with deworming tablets in the State expect Oke- Ero Local Government Area, but our mission does not stop at treatments alone, we are equally committed to prevention. This includes promoting clean water, improving sanitation, and raising awareness about the importance of good hygiene practices”, Dr El-Imam added.


She then appreciated the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, for prioritising the health of all Kwarans, through the support of several health interventions going on in the State.


The Chairman, House Committee on Health and Environment, Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Rasak Owolabi, enjoined parents, guardians and students to ensure they take advantage of the free health initiative to deworm. 


Hon. Owolabi who advised student to take to prescribed medication by Doctors and as well stay away from bathing with or drinking contaminated stream water.


He lauded the State Ministry of Health, for being proactive in the deworming excercise, to avoid outbreak of epidemics. 


The Manager, Kwara State Sight Savers Programme , Mr Lekan Ajayi in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the State Government for providing an enabling environment for all development partners especially Sight Savers in the last thirty years, to operate. 


The deworming exercise is expected to take place in all schools across the State, except Oke- Ero Local Government which is non endemic for Schistosomiasis.

KWASRRA COMMENCES LOCAL GOVERNMENT RESIDENTS REGISTRATION

The Kwara State Residents Registration Agency has commenced registration for the staff of Local Government Areas and farmers across the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State. The second phase of the registration exercise is focused on the registration of the members of Staff of the Local Government Areas (LGA), Local Government Education Authority ( LGEA), Teaching Service Commission ( TESCOM) and farmers across the State.
