Ecological Projects: Commissioner Pays Unscheduled Visit to Sites

The Kwara State government has once again demonstrated its commitment to ensuring that public funds are utilized judiciously in conformity with standard global practices for the benefit of citizens.


The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi Bata stated this during his unscheduled visits to  the ongoing ecological projects inspection of projects in Asa Local Government Council of Kwara State.


It would be recalled that a similar inspection was  carried out earlier by the Commissioner to ascertain the level of compliance and to ensure the standard of projects were done according to specifications at the Council projects sites of constructions of  Culverts at Ubandawaki village and Adeleji village as well as the construction of drainage along Alapa road. 


The Commissioner  expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance of work done  at Adeleji village via Onikeke Road but expressed  dissatisfaction on the slow pace and non adherence to the Bill of Quantity as submitted to the Ministry through the Local Government Council on the construction of the culvert at Ubandawaki and erosion drainage control at Alapa Road.


The Commissioner who expressed his dissatisfaction over the projects gave a marching order to the Council to ensure they strengthen its monitoring and projects compliance unit to ensure the aforementioned projects are executed accordingly.


Hon Bata who had promised to revisit the projects at a later date declared that the present administration under the leadership of the Executive Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq will not allow any substandard projects across the State.


During his unscheduled visit, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction on the Ubandawaki culvert construction, which can be attested to by the benefitting communities who trooped out in their numbers to express satisfaction over the location of the projects,  he, however, urged the contractor handling the drainage at Alapa to hasten up his work as no excuse would be tolerated again.


In his words, "the Ministry under my watch will in no position dictate to any Local Government in the State over the choices and location of projects but the Ministry is only exercising the cabinet responsibilities by  ensuring that things are done in accordance with the lay down rules and there is justification for public funds usage," he said.


He, however, appreciated the Council for strict supervision by ensuring all the grey areas observed in their earlier visits were carried out accordingly.


Earlier in his remarks,The Executive Chairman of Asa Local Government, Hon. Shehu Amosa Yahaya, thanked the Commissioner and his team for their effort at ensuring things are done accordingly. 


The Executive Chairman, who was represented by the Director of  Personnel Management, Chief Kinrinjin Alao Adebara disclosed that the Council had strengthened it's monitoring and supervision unit not only to ensure the projects are done according to  specification but to ensure other Council affairs are carried out appropriately.


Hon Yahaya, however, urged other communities with similar intervention projects to be patient as they would also be captured in the next batch of projects.

Desist from Lifting Students to Coaching Centers- KWSG

Kwara State Government has sounded serious warnings to proprietors of coaching centers across the state, to henceforth desist from lifting students from various schools, under the pretext of preparing them for Seniors Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)or be ready to face the full wrath of law.
