As Christmas and New Year celebration is fast approaching, the State Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, has extended warm greetings to Kwara residents, even as she charged them to ensure a clean, healthy and safe environment, during the festivities.
The Commissioner who prayed that the Christmas and New Year brings peace, joy and happiness to all, also appealed to Kwarans to celebrate in clean environment, to ensure a healthy living.
According to her, "cleanliness is next to holiness. It is therefore imperative and expedient for all of us to join hands with the Kwara State Government, in its commitment at ensuring a cleaner, safer, hygienic and aesthetically beautiful environment, that will promote healthy living as well as economic sustainability of the state."
The Commissioner seized the opportunity to disclose that the next monthly environmental sanitation exercise will come up on Saturday, 28th December, 2024 and will feature house to house visits by the Environmental Health Officers, (wole-wole), led by Environmental Task force, to ensure compliance with relevant sanitary laws, while vehicular movement will be allowed as a result of the ongoing festivities.
Residents are therefore enjoined to sustain a clean environment and abide by relevant laws and guidance, to enhance a healthy living at homes and business environments.
In addition, Buge stressed further that, waste management trucks will be made available for waste collection and subsequent dumping of refuse, at the government approved dump site.
Members of the public are therefore warned that, it is an offence, punishable under the law, to dump refuse on pedestrian walkways, road dividers, drainages, canals, and all other unapproved dump sites.
"May this festive season inspire us to take action capable of protecting our environment, prevent climate change consequences and preserve our natural resources for future generations."
