KWSG to Empower Youths through Modern Agriculture
The Kwara State Government has reiterated its goal to diversify the economy and reduce unemployment through modern and sustainable agricultural practices. This was established when the government sent youths across the State for agricultural training in Jos.
The Commissioner for Youths Development, Amb. Shehu Usman Ndanusa, reaffirmed this while receiving participants sent to Jos for the training in his office today.
The training organized by the Federal Ministry of Youths Development has participants across the nation, including Kwara State.
The Commissioner noted that the initiatives of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq are part of Kwara State's broader strategy to diversify the economy, change Kwara State from a civil service State, and promote sustainable development through agriculture.
Amb. Ndanusa noted that the Kwara State Government is actively working with federal institutions to enhance youths development and employment opportunities, particularly in agriculture and entrepreneurship. Through the various partnerships, including training programmes in other states like Jos, Osun to equip young people with skills to drive economic growth and self-reliance.
The Commissioner said the training was an opportunity for the participants to network with industry experts and access mentorship programmes to help them implement the skills learnt effectively in their communities.
According to the spokesperson of the participants, Sadiq Sulyman, he noted that the training focused on equipping young participants with modern agricultural skills and business intellect.
He further explained that the programme included practical sessions on innovative farming methods, the use of technology in agriculture, and entrepreneurial strategies.
He explained that they were trained on how to plant different crops and the various usage of cassava in producing varieties of finished products such as chips, chinchin, puff-puff, different from their previous knowledge about Garri and fufu only.
The participants commended the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the opportunity given to them to widen their knowledge about farming, create sustainable farming enterprises and contribute to national food security efforts.
