Ecological Projects: Communities Commend Kaiama and Baruten Councils

The duo of Kaiama and Baruten Local Government Councils in Kwara North Senatorial District of the State have been commended for identifying with their respective communities in the choices of project under the ecological projects execution.


The Commissioner for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abdullah Abubakar Bata who was represented by the Director of Local Government Affairs, Mrs Christianah Akande disclosed this at the different fora of inspection of the ongoing projects. She disclosed that not only will the projects curtail ecological challenges, but will also enhance the economic activities of the benefiting communities.


The Commissioner who could not hide his displeasure, decried the attitude of some communities who abuse  the projects by dumping refuse inside the drainage. She mandated the councils through their department of sanitation to visit the projects sites and sensitize the people about the dangers associated with such act.


The Commissioner also expressed her displeasure over the slow pace of work, especially on the dual culvert at the ever busy Gwaria market road, considering the economic importance of the road, the contractor was mandated to hasten  work on the project as the government would no longer tolerate any excuse for the delay.


Hon. Bata further disclosed that the Ministry was only exercising its statutory function by monitoring and supervising the projects to ensure they meet the desired specifications while noting that the Ministry was not involved in the choices of all the projects.


The Development Officer  of Baruten Local Government, Hon. Asaburu Umar Mora thanked the inspection officials for the inspection and assured that all their observations have been noted for appropriate actions.

Also speaking at the project site in Kaiama, the contractor, Mr Lawal Boroda, Managing Director Lamb Project Nig Ltd, apologized for the slow pace of work, which he attributed to the perennial flooding in the area, assuring that work would be hastened up since the rains have stopped .


Other projects visited were the ongoing construction of 1200 meters drainage at Kiwozi to Balance Cashier road and evacuation of refuse sites in the council.


Other project sites visited in Baruten included: the construction of erosion culvert beside Gwanara police station, construction of a culvert erosion site, adjacent the palace of the Emir of Ilesha Baruba and construction of hard core culvert at the Emir of Yashikira road, among others.
