TERTIARY COMMISSIONER COMMENDS KWARA POLY FOR AGRICULTURAL INNOVATION

Sabitiyu Kikelomo Grillo at the official flag off of Sales of farm produce at subsidized rate at the Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin on Friday.

The State Commissioner for Teritairy Education Dr. Mary Ronke Arinde has maintained that the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration is making conserted efforts at ensuring adequate food security and excess food supply accross the state 

Dr Arinde gave this assurances at the Flag off of the Kwara State Polytechnic Commercial farm products and first tranche of maize sales at subsidized rate at Kwara poly on friday.

Dr Arinde applauded the initiative and said that it is in line with present administration's policy thrust to reduce hunger and foster agricultural development in the State. 

Dr. Arinde promised government's unwavering support for tertiary institutions in their quest for excellence and enhanced service delivery 

The Commissioner added that the event is a testament to the Polytechnic's dedication to fostering agricultural development and promoting self-sufficiency within the educational community.

Dr. Arinde who commended the Kwara Poly management for the agric project initiative, encouraged the management to grow other grains for public consumption.

Earlier, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Muhammed disclosed that apart from supporting Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's efforts in ensuring food security and sustainability in the State, the farm project is also meant to expose students to the practical aspect of their field of study.

He added that the Polytechnic also used the farm as a means of checking encroachment on its land, thereby affording the institution an opportunity to demonstrate its expertise in agricultural production.

The Rector disclosed that out of the 129 bags of maize from the first batch of harvest, two bags have been set aside for processing into products such as custard, semovita and maize flour.

Movement Restriction in Kwara as Monthly Sanitation Exercise holds on Saturday

This is to inform members of the public that the sanitation exercise for the month of September, 2024, will come up on Saturday 28th between 7:00 am and 10:00 am. Residents of the State are enjoined to participate in the exercise by cleaning their residential and business environments. It is also mandatory for all residents to clear drainages and bushes around their surroundings for health and safety reasons.  There will be no vehicular movement across the state within the three-hour duration of the exercise.
