KWACReSAL to Establish Nurseries in Ipetu-Igbomina

The Kwara State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (KWACReSAL) has visited Ipetu-Igbomina in Irepodun local government to continue its preliminary mechanism for the establishment of nurseries in the community.


Ipetu-Igbomina is one of the six communities in Kwara that have been designated to benefit from ACReSAL's nurseries project

 aimed at addressing climate issues as it relates to boosting the socio-economic livelihoods of community members by focusing on planting of different seedlings and economic trees in the nurseries for the benefit of the communities.


The project aligns with the vision and agenda of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to tackle climate change, boost food security, and improve the socio-economic conditions of the people.


The Kwara State Project Management Unit (SPMU) of ACReSAL led by the State Project Coordinator, Alhaji Shamsideen Aregbe, had previously visited Ipetu-Igbomina on different occasions for stakeholders’ engagement, site inspection, delineation, and community sensitization.


The latest visit to the community is in continuation of the process for the prompt execution of the nursery project, involving land pegging layout and land clearing to effectively secure and mark out the boundaries of the five hectares for the site of the nursery in the community.


Part of the exercises also involved the use of  electromagnetic method to explore groundwater at the site, as conducted by the Water Resources Officer, Mrs Olajumoke Yusuf with the support of Geologist Fikayo Ayilara of the Kwara State Ministry of Water Resources, a process that yielded positive outcomes.


The Kwara ACReSAL's nursery project has been widely accepted and commended by the Ipetu-Igbomina community, attracting the royal blessing of the monarch, Onipetu of Ipetu, Oba Samuel Olabanji Olanrewaju Erinfolami.


Among the team were the Project Engineer, Engr. Hussein Abubakar; GIS Officer, Mr. Sheriff Olagunju; M & E Officer, Mr. Abdulrauf Anifowoshe; Natural Resources Officer, Mallam Salihu Hussein; and ICT Officer, Mrs Lateefat Bello; who were joined by some members of the State Technical Committee, including the Director of Forestry, Alhaji Babatunde Idris Mahmud, and Deputy Director, Agric Services.
