KWSG LAUNCHES SOLUTION TO LEARNING GAP

The Kwara State Government has launched a new solution designed to close learning gap and increase access to quality education tagged: 'Nigeria Learning Passport'.

The State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq launched the programme recently at E-Phoenix Hotel, GRA, Ilorin, explaining that the initiative is an online educational platform that would provide continuous access to quality education.

The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Mamman Saba Jibril, disclosed that Nigeria Learning Passport is aimed at assisting out of school children and support children with little access to technology and others.

According to him, "Domestication of this initiative comes at a time that we are also implementing the KwaraLearn, a game changing educational initiative that has improved learning outcomes for our children across the 16 Local Government Areas."

Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized that his administration will continue to subscribe to policies and programmes that will facilitate accelerated educational development in the State.

The Governor applauded the Federal Government for the adoption of the programme and stressed that the Nigeria Learning Passport is timely and laudable, while acknowledging the partnership and support of the Global Partners in Education and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in the realization of the programme.

In her remarks, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa'adatu Modibbo Kawu, said the launching of the programme marked another milestone in repositioning the educational sector in the State.

She explained that the new development is in line with the transformation agenda of the present administration in the State towards attainment of 2030 agenda of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal.

"Today's launching of the Nigeria Learning Passport in Kwara State is an evidence of His Excellency's commitment, dedication and magnanimity towards creating a conducive environment for the implementation of the programme", the Commissioner said.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake, stated that the programme came at a time the State is passing through the digitalization of teaching and learning.

The Permanent Secretary informed that the Nigeria Learning Passport platform is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education in partnership with the Global Partners in Education and the UNICEF, adding that the programme is designed to close the learning gap and enable continued access to quality education.

Also speaking, the Education Officer, UNICEF, Mr. Bala Dada, explained that the programme was developed by the UNICEF in partnership with Microsoft and others to provide access to Nigeria education curriculum from anywhere in the country.

He disclosed that Kwara is the 20th State where the programme had been launched, informing that the programme, apart from assisting out of school children, it would continue to support training of teachers, among others.

KWASRRA COMMENCES LOCAL GOVERNMENT RESIDENTS REGISTRATION

The Kwara State Residents Registration Agency has commenced registration for the staff of Local Government Areas and farmers across the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State. The second phase of the registration exercise is focused on the registration of the members of Staff of the Local Government Areas (LGA), Local Government Education Authority ( LGEA), Teaching Service Commission ( TESCOM) and farmers across the State.
