KWSG REITERATES ITS PLEDGE TO SUPPORT NUTRITION

The Kwara State Government has again reiterated its pledge to support nutrition towards eradicating malnutrition in the State. 

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, who also doubled as the Chairman of the State Committee on Food and Nutrition (SCFN), Dr. Umar Yakubu Jaja, disclosed this today during the 2nd quarter meeting of the State Committee on Food and Nutrition held at the Ministry of Finance's conference hall.

Dr. Jaja appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritising the health status of all residents in Kwara State.

According to him, "His Excellency is so passionate to approve any budget relating to Nutrition in the State, that is to the extent he values the well-being of Kwarans."

Dr. Jaja urged the Line Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the SCFN to focus on the activities in the Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action (MSPAN), which has been drafted according to research in order to tackle malnutrition in the State.

The Director, Directorate of Planning, Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, Alhaji Surajudeen Alimi, stressed the need to send reminders for memos to fast track approval, while assuring that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is willing to render any support where needed.

At the training session for Committee members, the representative from the National Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC), Mrs. Funmilayo Adeoye, discussed various ways by which people preserve foods, including addition of dangerous chemicals, which are harmful to health. 

She mentioned numerous ways these preservatives are being used and advised on ways to curb this act so as to improve healthy consumption.
