KWSG, NGO TO TRAIN OVER 20 VULNERABLE GROUPS AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY

The Kwara State Government has again expressed its wish to partner a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Project Enabling Africa, to train over 20 people living with disability on business and digital marketing, reiterating its continuous commitment to embrace any project that will make life habitable for them and other vulnerable groups.

The State Commissioner for Social Development, Hon. Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh, stated this recently while receiving the Team from Project Enabling Africa, a Non-Governmental Organisation, in her office.

Mentioning numerous challenges the vulnerable groups and people living with disability often face among members of the society, Hon. Buraimoh lauded the unwavering stride and priority at which Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq placed them.

The Commissioner applauded the programme plan of the proposed training by the Non-Governmental Organisation, which is targeted at empowering, equipping and boosting the vulnerable groups and people with disability with the capacity to be self reliant, adding that there is an enabling environment for the programme to hold.

"I want to assure you of full support of the state government because in Kwara State we have a Governor who is highly personate about the citizens' well-being, especially the women, children and the vulnerable groups and we have the environment that is very conducive for the programme", the Commissioner disclosed.

 

She appreciated the NGO for choosing residents in Kwara State as its beneficiaries and urged them to do the necessary official documentation, while assuring that the proposal would be escalated to the Governor as soon as possible.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Ayanwale Peter Kayode, commended the step as timely, saying that the collaboration will go a long way to boost government's efforts in attending to the yearnings of the vulnerable groups and the fund support will help their businesses to thrive.

He enjoined them to stay faithful and focused on the set goals of the project, praying for successful implementation and completion of the project.

Speaking earlier, the Team Leader, Project Enabling Africa, Mr. Micheal Ojediran, disclosed that the organisation focused on charity and humanitarian services, to provide necessary intervention and social support to the less privileged and people with disability.

Mr. Ojediran explained that the organisation has trained over 500 people with disability on skill acquisition and entrepreneurship, many of whom are presently employed in both public and private sectors, while others also flourished in their businesses.

"Our organisation as we speak has trained people with disability on different skills, business strategies on running their businesses, marketing, record keeping and sourcing for available funds to support their businesses", Mr. Ojediran said.

"We equally trained them on how to work in the formal setting, placed them on internship learning with companies and public establishments, supporting them with stipends, while they access their skills; we as well trained the companies too on how they can better understand them", he added.

According to Mr. Ojediran, over twenty beneficiaries, at government preference and approval, will be taking through 5-days training session on skills, business strategies, and digital marketing to better assist them to beat the notable barriers often faced in the physical market.

Also present at the meeting were the Director, Personel, Finance and Supply of the Ministry, Mrs. Florence Balogun; Director, Social Welfare, Mr. James Kayode David and other staff of the Ministry.
