Gov't Commends Shagaya Family for Donating BICU to UITH


The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has commended the Shagaya family for complimenting government efforts at improving the health standard of the people, by donating Burn Intensive Care Unit, to improve the health care delivery in the country.
 
 Governor AbdulRazaq gave this commendation today, at the commissioning of the newly built health facility named after Batuli Ajiferuke Shagaya, at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).
 

While commissioning the project, the Governor who was represented by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam highlighted some of the giant strides by his administration, in advancing the healthcare sector, aimed at enhancing the welfare of the people, emphasizing particularly on the transformation of the General Hospital, Ilorin, into the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) among others, describing it as a cornerstone achievement, in healthcare delivery.


The Governor commended Alhaji Sheriff Shagaya for his philanthropic gesture, by donating the Burn Intensive Care Unit, underscoring the importance of public private partnerships, at improving healthcare infrastructure. 

He therefore called on other well-meaning individuals and organizations, to emulate Alhaji Shagaya's kind gesture, towards humanity, by contributing to healthcare services in Kwara State.

In his address the donor and Chairman, Salman Shagaya Foundation, Alhaji Sherif Sagaya stated that the state-of-the-art facility was donated to save lives, promote healing and recovery, and so beacon on others to also invest in the sector. 

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Professor Yussuf Dasliva expressed profound gratitude to the donor, adding that, when such gesture is frequently received, it will definitely compliment government's efforts and ultimately reducing the tides of the increasing in medical tourism abroad. 


The Batuli Ajiferuke Shagaya Burn Intensive Care Unit is indeed a state-of-the-art facility, as it is equipped with cutting edge medical equipment, which provides specialized care, for patients suffering from severe burns.


Highlight of the commissioning was the presentation of award to the donor and symbolic tree planting at the facility.


The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including the Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Yakub Danladi, Senator Representing Kwara North, Alhaji Umar Sadiq and a Member, House of Representatives, Hon. Muktar Shagaya. 

Others were; Chairman House Committee on Health, Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Razak Owolabi, Alhaja Bola Shagaya, All Progressive Party (APC) stalwarts, healthcare professionals, members of the Academics, Royal Fathers and community Members among others.
