CRF IMPLEMENTATION: KWACReSAL Embarks on CIGs Formation in Selected Watershed Communities

In its bid to step up the Community Revolving Fund (CRF) implementation exercise for the State, the Kwara State Agro-climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) has embarked on the formation of the Community Interest Groups (CIGs) in the selected watershed communities in the State for the programme.

Earlier, visits were made to the communities to sensitize and enlighten them on the overview of what CRF entailed and the necessary criteria the Community Interest Groups (CIGs) must undergo to qualify for the CRF benefits. 

According to the project plan, the Community Revolving Fund (CRF) programme will focus on ten (10) communities in the State to ensure a proper management plan.

The formation activity was aimed at organizing the selected five communities each from the two micro-catchments as the pioneer communities, comprising of Asa, Ilorin West, Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas. 

The two Micro-Watersheds visited during the Community Interest Groups (CIGs) formation were the Asa River Micro-Watershed consisting of Afon, Gbago, Laduba, Ogbondoroko and Egbejila, while Lata Micro-Watershed included Woro-Lata, Wodata, Kokodo, Lata-Nna, and Takalafia communities.

Leading the CRFTeam to Asa and Patigi communities, the State Project Coordinator, Alhaji Shamsideen Aregbe who was represented by the Natural Resource Officer, Mallam Salihu Hussein and the Project Engineer, Engr Hussain Abubakar gave an insight into the criteria for the formation of the interest groups and the necessary documentation for them. 

Engr. Abubakar stated that the group should be registered and limited to 25 members with a minimum of 10 members, having core farmers as group members. The State Project Management Unit (SPMU) also took cognizance of gender-inclusiveness by ensuring that females were placed in key positions for the group, among other criteria.

He disclosed that the CRF programme was aimed at improving the social livelihood of the people as well as enhancing their economic state as well as ensuring food security for citizens.

Reacting to the exercise, the members of the community expressed their readiness and commitment towards the group formation and pledged their unalloyed support and loyalty to the success of the programme in their communities.

Kwara SUBEB Announces Modalities for Teachers' Recruitment Exercise
