L-pres NATIONAL COORDINATOR CALLS FOR SYNERGY AMONG WORLD BANK PROJECTS IN KWARA

... as agric commissioner assures smooth implementation of the project

A call has gone to all the participating states in the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), to synergise with other livestock related projects, including the Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) and Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) in their overall best interests.

The National Coordinator of L-PRES Project, Alhaji Sanusi Abubakar, made the call in Ilorin when he paid a courtesy visit to the Kwara State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas in her Office.

The National Coordinator, who is also part of the World Bank and Federal Government Mission Team that came to assess the level of implementation of L-PRES Project in the state, explained that the team believes in the ability of the state government to achieve the project development objectives (PDO) within the time frame guiding the project.

"We believe you can do more to encourage them to work together and compliment each other, in Special Agro Industrial Processing Zone Project (SAPZ). We have the processors, while in L-PRES, we have the producers, which is for the benefit of the livestock farmers and Kwara State in general", the National Coordinator said.

Alhaji Abubakar further canvassed for the state government’s continuous support for quick implementation of the L-PRES project, pointing out that the project has a time bound during which specific achievements must be recorded in order to be able to access more funds.

He expressed the willingness of the National L-PRES Office to support the state for a seamless implementation.

"We have allocated an anthrax vaccine for Kwara State, and with your permission, we will conclude the process", the Coordinator stressed.

In her response, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas expressed delight to receive the team in her office , noting that the project would play a significant role in developing the livestock sub sector of the state.

Mrs. Thomas said the visit would afford the state the opportunity to have a sound take-off and smooth implementation for a better outcome of the project in the state.

"It may interest you to note that Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq believes so much in this project and in the livestock transformation concept, because we know the benefits to be derived through this project by addressing the issues our livestock farmers are facing and that is why His Excellency also brought in SAPZ to focus more on the livestock sector", the Commissioner added.
