TESCOM CHAIRMAN CHARGES TEACHERS ON DISCIPLINE, DEDICATION
Teachers of Secondary Schools in Kwara State have been charged to imbibe discipline and commitment as part of the teaching and learning process.
The Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar stated this today while addressing teachers of schools during an inspection visit to ascertain the compliance with the 2023/2024 academic calendar across selected schools in Ilorin.
Bello, in his address described education as incomplete without good morals and discipline, which he said is the bedrock of education. He described teachers as the soul of development and charged them to live up to the standards of the profession. He described teaching as a noble profession that everyone should be proud of because it is the hub for knowledge and the root of innovations.
According to him, “teachers must be the epitome of morals and discipline, if you are not disciplined it will be difficult for you to mould your students to be disciplined. We need to go back to the days when teachers were seen as the epitome of morals and discipline. We need to see the students as our children and do all we can to make sure they excel”, he said.
He encouraged teachers to also help their students imbibe proper hygiene, which he said is presently being relegated. He reminded the teachers that cleanliness is next to godliness and this must be at the forefront of teaching in the State.
The Chairman also emphasised the need for teachers to be properly dressed and neat at all times, maintaining that principals should ensure that teachers who fall short of the moral code are reported to the Commission for prompt action.
The Permanent Member II Mallam Suleiman Abubakar Danseko, while speaking during the visit, also encouraged the teachers to exhibit high moral standards in the discharge of their duties so that students can easily emulate them.
Danseko warned teachers who do not use their identity cards as well as those who abscond from class to desist forthwith as punitive measures would be taken against offenders.
The Principal of Community Grammar School, Ganmo, Mr. Kolawole Iyanda who appreciated the Chairman and his team for his leadership style and open door policy, which has brought countless benefits to teachers in the State, called on all teachers to join hands with the Chairman in ensuring that the various investments of the Governor of Kwara State in education and teacher's welfare bear good results.
The Chairman and his team visited ST. Barnabas Secondary School, Ilorin, Olunlade Senior Secondary School, Olunlade, Ilorin, Community Grammar School Ganmo, Ifelodun, LGA, Kwara State.
