WELFARE HOMES: MINISTRY CALLS FOR DONATIONS FROM DONOR AGENCIES, PHILANTHROPISTS, PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS

A call has gone to Foreign Donor Agencies, Philanthropists, Private Individuals and Associations to donate generously to the Social Welfare Homes, to complement the efforts of the State government at contributing to the well-being of vulnerable groups and ensure a better living standard of inmates.

The Commissioner for Social Development, Hon. Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade made the call over the weekend, while receiving members of the University of Lagos Mass Communication Alumni Association, the class of '84 also known as 'The Family', who donated some items at the Amoyo Rehabilitation Centre.

Hon. Afolashade cherished their act of kindness and charitable support towards the well-being of the centre and appreciated the act of humanity.

The Commissioner further reiterated the commitment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, towards the welfare of vulnerable groups, people living with disabilities and the less privileged in the society. 

She therefore urged Individuals, Associations, Philanthropists, NGOs and Foreign Donors to contribute their quota to the welfare of the downthroddens in the society, as living a meaningful life is also essential for them. 

Lending a voice, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Peter Kayode Ayanwale also appreciated the kind gesture of the Association towards humanity and prayed for their journey mercies back to their destination.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Fred Ohwawah, thanked the Ministry for the warm reception and promised more of this gesture, assuring that the Ministry will get a positive response from the Association very soon.

Present at the event were the Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply, Mrs. Folashade Idowu; Director, Social Welfare, Mr. Kayode David James; and other members of staff of the Ministry.
