The Kwara State Government has commenced the training of 44 Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS) on malaria and tuberculosis microscopy to strengthen diagnostic capacity and improve healthcare delivery in the state. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, disclosed this when she declared a 10-day training programme open in Ilorin at Peace Hotel.  The Commissioner explained that the exercise become necessary described it as a critical step towards improving accurate diagnosis and saving lives. Dr. El-Imam urged participants to take the training seriously and apply the knowledge acquired in their various places of work, stressing that laboratory personnel play a fundamental role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has trained health workers on interpersonal communication (IPC), Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) surveillance and outbreak response. The Kwara State Government has inaugurated a Joint Management Committee to oversee the coexistence of the Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), Ilorin, and the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin. The Kwara State Government has commenced post-rescue assessment and rehabilitation of 30 children rescued from the Iranlowo Oluwa Orphanage and Children’s Home, an unapproved facility in Ilorin, with the children now receiving proper care, medical attention and psychosocial support. The rescue operation was carried out on Thursday by the Kwara State Ministry of Social Development following the discovery of irregularities and concerns relating to the welfare and living conditions of the children at the facility. The Kwara State Hospitals Management Board (KW-HMB) has pledged sustained support for the ongoing surgical outreach at Adewole Cottage Hospital, Ilorin, as part of efforts to ensure effective healthcare delivery to residents. The Kwara State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (KWACReSAL) Project has commenced post-disbursement monitoring and assessment of beneficiaries of its Community Revolving Fund (CRF) across 10 communities in the state, with beneficiaries reporting increased farming activities, expansion of farm spaces and employment of additional labour. The monitoring exercise, which took place last week, is designed to assess the utilisation of funds disbursed to beneficiaries, evaluate the early impact of the intervention on their livelihoods, identify challenges and provide necessary guidance to ensure the sustainability of the scheme. Officials of Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KWASAA) on Wednesday removed campaign billboards belonging to Engr Kale Kawu, the Gubernatorial candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), for violation of advertising campaign rules, environmental protection standards, and destruction of public infrastructure.  Of the two political billboards affected, one is located at Adabata Junction, while the other is hung on the public water facility (motorized borehole) at Bata Shop, Agaka – both of which the agency considered abuse of public facilities.
